#5 Missed Target

Monday 3/30/26

Today inshore seemed fishy. We loaded up the boat and were out in La Jolla by 7 am. We trolled hard. Water temperature was around 65 degrees. We a saw a ton of bait around. It was crazy. We started the day with a handful of Bonito on slow trolled sardines we had picked up from Everingham Bait Barge in Mission Bay. Around mid day we managed two legal calico bass. One bit the rapala, another was caught on a surface iron. Shortly after the first calico we caught a little Mako shark on a Rapala as well. This one unfortunately took our favorite rapala and sent it down to the bottom of the sea.

We searched for the yellowtail all day. We didn’t see much happening all day, and fishing seemed like slow picking, until late afternoon. It was one of those days where we were in the right place at the wrong time. We saw a yellowtail get caught on one of the half day boats, and heard of another nice one. Wind started to drop, seas started to settle down, but we were running out of daylight so it was time to head home. ‘Til next time…
