#31 For The Kids
Saturday 9/5/26
We had a busy weekend, but were able to make it offshore for a quick half day trip. With limited time, we figured we would see what the conditions were like along our local 9 mile bank. We had also heard there were a pod of Orcas around, so hopefully we would catch a glimpse of them. We launched early in the morning, made a handful of mackerel for bait, and pointed it south west. We started at the lower 9 and ran up to the 178. Along the way we found scraps of kelp, and almost all of them were holding baby yellowtail. We ended our day around 2 good sized kelps, where we had a wide open bite of small yellowtail. This was perfect for our kids. It was a great day making memories, watching our 3 year old catch and release as many yellowtail as she wanted. We even had the 18 month old practice reeling with assistance! We never found the big fish we were hoping for, but one thing is for sure, there is a ton of life out there! How often do we spend an offshore day watching our kids reel in fish at almost every stop. Usually they are happy passengers, today they were hooked!
