#32 Tuna Time
Saturday 9/19/26
It was no secret there was a hot bite going on south of the border, and while we had plans to troll for Marlin and Wahoo, we thought why not make a quick stop for some yellowfin tuna. The trick has been light line and anchovy for bait. So we did just that. We left in the dark to beat some of the crowds and spent the morning around the tuna pens picking away at 10-12 lb yellowfin tuna. With enough yellowfin on the boat to make us happy, we decided it was time to troll hard. We went south west of the pens out to the 230, and when we got to that zone we saw a scrap of kelp and shortly after had a short bite on the marlin lure. We never saw the fish, but it seemed potentially like a dorado. The weather started to pick up and it got a little snotty. We started to work our way back, and went up to the corner/182 zone. Near there we had another weird missed bite on the troll. Out of nowhere our DTX came flying back at the boat and hit our bait tank! After inspecting it, it had teeth marks in it…
We ended our day with 5 yellowfin tuna and 2 missed bites on the troll. Hard to be sad with tuna in the boat, but now we are eager to get out there again and get back on the troll. Let’s see what the fall brings!
