#30 Haystack

To find what we wanted we knew it was going to be like finding a needle in a haystack, and it was. We launched the boat early, picked up a scoop of anchovy for chum, and worked hard to make some mackerel to fly line. Unfortunately making bait proved to be difficult for us today, and after a while we decided to send it to the islands with just a few pieces. We were hoping to find a school and rely on our yoyo irons, but without sonar this was hard to do. We spent some time in the zone, fishing outside the pack of boats looking for a school of our own. We never connected with a school of yellowtail that wanted to play. We looked around South Island, middle grounds, and north island. It was quiet all day. We found a big bonito on the troll around middle grounds, and 2 mako sharks that we released. We wanted to give the kids a chance to fish, so we went to a few spots around the north island to look for bottom fish. We caught and released a bunch of whitefish, and ended the day with a nice sheepshead and sculpin for taco meat.
