#25 For the Kid

Wednesday 7/22/26

Too hot to sleep, too hot to sit, so it was time to fish. A change was bound to happen. Local water temps have been hot, in the 75-76 degree range, but today was different. We were seeing water around 74 degrees and it made for tough picking. We caught and released the usual calico bass, but did manage to get lucky. Our toddler was casually retrieving a small hook up bait while we fly lined sardines. On one of her retrievals she hooked a firecracker yellowtail. It was pretty rad seeing her bass rod with 12 lb test totally bent over with line screaming off the reel. She yelled “I have a fishy!” and pretty quickly needed help. She was really happy to get one on her rod and out fish mom!
