#11 Happy Hour
Friday 5/8/26
We wanted to beat the weekend crowds, and had a feeling the afternoon bite would be the ticket. After work we loaded up the boat and hit our local spot for a chance at some happy hour yellowtail. Water temperature was pushing 67 degrees and the tides were right. When we got to La Jolla we saw really good signs of fish. It was one of those evenings that just felt fishy. Within the first 15 minutes we saw a few birds working, followed by those splashes that get your heart pumping. We threw a couple irons at the spot, but they sank out quick. We chose to put the rapalas out, and we worked a few areas until we started to see good fish marks on the finder. We stuck to the area with the best signal, and after about an hour we were bit! With it being Mother’s Day Weekend it was ladies first. When we put the boat in neutral and started to wind in the other line, another yellowtail bit it on the retrieve! Doubles! This was the afternoon we had hoped for. These were the only two fish we found, but it was the perfect way to start our weekend.
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the rad mommas out there!
